True Blue Golf Club - A Myrtle Beach Golf Course Review
June 07th, 2023Golf Travel Ideas, Golf Course Reviews, Barefoot Golf Resort, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
True Blue Golf Club, located in Pawley's Island, just outside of Myrtle Beach, is not only one of the best golf courses in the area but most certainly one of Mike Strantz's best golf courses designed. The famed architect of Tobacco Road Golf Course (Sanford, NC) definitely created one heck of a golf course with True Blue.
A perfect complement to either one of our Barefoot Resort golf packages, in particular the Barefoot Golf 6 Night, 6 Round Ultimate Golf Package, it gets you off-site for a day, and we're certainly NOT suggesting spending time away from Barefoot, but if you are, then this IS the spot!
Amazing Golf at True Blue
Mike Strantz is known for creating layouts that resemble the characteristics of classic golf courses, in particular world-renowned and top-rated ones such as Pinehurst No. 2 and Pine Valley, True Blue, in every sense of the word, follows suit. An especially noticeable characteristic of True Blue is the minimalist design strategy - moving as little dirt as possible - that Strantz incorporates. By doing so, there is a definite natural appeal to his course, which in turn is appealing to both the eye and the golf senses as golfers navigate their way around this gem of a course.
Being rated #6 in courses you can play in the state of South Carolina by Golfweek Magazine, behind the likes of The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island, Harbour Town Golf Links at Sea Pines Resort, it's our personal opinion that it definitely should be a couple of notches higher. There are certainly some hefty golf courses on that list ahead of this modern-day great; however, there is no question True Blue not only holds its own but will NOT disappoint!
Some of my personal favorite holes at True Blue Golf Club, and definitely not limited to, are the 1st hole (par-5), the par-4 5th hole, and the par-3 7th hole, just to round out the front nine. Entering the back nine, it starts with loads of fun on the tee of the par-5 10th hole all the way through to the challenging end, with no weak hole to speak of. In particular, the closing stretch of holes from #14 through to the finish are exceptional golf holes!
Bottom line, when playing True Blue Golf Club, every facet of your game is and will be tested as you face a wide variety of different tee shots, plenty of shots over water, navigating your way around awesome waste bunkers, both off the tee and into the undulating greens. THEN, throw some subtle yet fantastic elevation change and sloping fairways, and you have yourself one heck of a golf course at True Blue!
Oh yes... Buckle up for the ride for the closing holes from #16, #17, and #18.
