Discover the Mesmerizing Golf Courses at TPC San Antonio

, ,

Located within a short drive of Austin, TPC San Antonio is the ideal destination for your next golf vacation or weekend getaway. The resort opened in 2010 and features two championship golf courses designed by two of the most famous and innovative architects – Pete Dye and Greg Norman. It's a private resort only accessible to club members and their guests. TPC San Antonio also features a 23-acre practice facility with two putting and short game areas.

The Oaks Course, One of the Toughest on the PGA Tour

Designed by Greg Norman, this golf course reflects the departure from the modern tournament-style course to a more natural look and feel without lacking the fan experience, which makes it very tournament friendly. It has a traditional layout that balances narrower tree-lined fairways with wider fairways, offering multiple routes to the green. The Oaks Course has just 100 feet of fall from the highest point to the lowest. The par-3 16th is considered the signature hole, with a bunker in the center of the enormous putting surface tiered on either side of the sand trap.

The golf course abounds with native grasses and plants. Bermuda grasses were selected for the Oaks Course to provide optimum playing conditions and diversity in color and texture. The golf course has been hosting the Valero Texas Open since 2010. Oak trees are prevalent throughout the course, hence its name, and the tree-lined corridors challenging tee shots are balanced out with wide rolling fairways. While it isn't as dramatic as you'll find the Canyons Course, it still has a great impact on club selection and playability.

The Canyons Course, a Perfect Complement to the Oaks Course

The Canyons Course is a tournament venue on its own as far as design, strategy, and hill country beauty are concerned. It was designed by the acclaimed Pete Dye, with corridors offering panoramic views of a 700-acre nature preserve. The golf course is a challenge for seasoned golfers and novices alike, with dramatic elevation changes. It's situated along a rolling ridgetop and features narrow bunkers running in the direction of play. The Canyons Course played host to PGA TOUR Champions San Antonio Championship from 2011 to 2015.

Played across a wide gorge to an elevated green, the par-3 16 is the signature hole of the course. Due to the differing topography, the Canyons Course couldn't be more different than the Oaks Course. The architect decided to let the land do the talking when he came up with the layout for this course. Gifted with a breathtaking piece of land, Pete Dye allowed the natural flow of the land to dictate the strategy for the par-72, 7,106 yards golf course. While the Canyons Course is less challenging than its counterpart, it will also put your game to the test.
